Work in progress
WHO WE ARE
Community Concerned about Lockheed Martin (CCALM, pronounced "calm")
is a group of Central California Coast residents who have joined together to
obtain information about the risks and hazards posed by the Lockheed
Martin weapons facility, which occupies a 4,400 acre site at the end
of Empire Grade Road in Bonny Doon, in Santa Cruz County.
We are committed to helping ensure that all who live, work, and
recreate along our beautiful coast steward the natural environment and
take appropriate measures to protect against unforeseeable and
irretrievable environmental contamination.
CCALM formed in response to growing concerns about the hazardous and
radioactive materials that may be used, manufactured, disposed of at
the Lockheed facility. We want Lockheed Martin to publicly disclose
the risks posed by the transportation of dangerous materials to and
from the plant, and up and down our county's roads.
WHAT WE DO
As its first order of business, CCALM wrote a letter to the Santa Cruz
County Department of Health requesting an opportunity to review
Lockheed Martin's Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP). Letter to Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Dept.
After the environmental health department forwards CCALM's request to
Lockheed, the company has 30 days to meet our request or the matter is
referred to a judge for adjudication.
We plan to share the information we receive with interested community
members to help us better prepare and protect ourselves in the
event of a hazardous materials accident at the Bonny Doon site or along
our roads and highways.
CCALM is also seeking help from Santa Cruz County residents in
identifying current or former employees and residents who have
information regarding the company's past hazardous material management
practices and accidents.
